2025.11.18: Presidential award for Prof. Hans-Jürgen Niemann

On 31 October 2025, the President of the International Association for Wind Engineering (IAWE), Prof. Claudio Borri, presented the IAWE Presidential Award to our esteemed colleague and friend Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Hans-Jürgen Niemann at a ceremony in Bochum.


2025.10.14: Technical discussion on the UBA research project of the German Environment Agency

On October 13 and 14, the Wind Engineering and Fluid Mechanics Working Group, together with colleagues from the Technical Meteorology Department at the University of Hamburg and the Institute for Combustion and Power Plant Technology at the University of Stuttgart, hosted a technical discussion at Ruhr University on "Improving the immission situation in residential areas by adapting discharge conditions - Alternative Measures to Chimney Height Increase."


2025.07.23: International commitment: Dr. Cornelia Kalender active as Secretary General of the IAWE

In March 2025, the International Association for Wind Engineering (IAWE) was successfully registered as a non-profit association at the Bochum District Court.


2024.12.10: VDI Richlinie 3783 Blatt 12

After more than six years of work, the revision of VDI Guideline 3783 Sheet 12 was officially published in November. The WIST group, with Dr Cornelia Kalender and Prof. Rüdiger Höffer, worked intensively on this with colleagues Bernd Leitl, Frank Harms, Rolf-Dieter Lieb, Wolfgang Theurer, Veith Hildebrand, Wolfgang Bächlin and Bernhard Bauhofer in the VDI/DIN Commission on Air Quality Control (KRdL) standards committee.


2024.11.08: General Assembly of the International Association for Wind Engineering

On 8 November, an extraordinary General Assembly of the International Association for Wind Engineering - IAWE took place in Bochum and online. We are very pleased that Dr Cornelia Kalender was officially elected Secretary General at this meeting and that Prof. Rüdiger Höffer took over the office of Treasurer.


2024.10.14: PARFORCE Master Course 2024

The Parforce course is taking place again this semester. Participants get to know the virtual laboratories of several institutes at various universities and work in small groups on a project to evaluate structures under wind, fire and earthquake impact. The course will take place as a presence event at one of the universities involved in the project from 24 to 28 March 2025.


2024.10.08: Open the door with the mouse - 3 October 2024 - Wind tunnel

On 3 October, we once again took part in Mouse Day, which had the motto ‘ZusammenTun’ (working together), this year. We welcomed many interested children and their parents to our wind tunnel.


2024.08.30: MODENERLANDS - Strategic workshop Bochum September 2-3, 2024

The Institute of Wind Engineering and Fluid Mechanics at Ruhr-Universität Bochum organised a workshop as part of the COST action ‘MODENERLANDS - Modular Energy Islands for Sustainability and Resilience’ on 2 and 3 September 2024 at the Beckmannshof at the Botanical Garden of Ruhr-Universität Bochum.


2024.07.19: Visit Chamber of Engineers

On Friday, 19.07.2024, on the initiative of Prof. Höffer, a meeting took place between the Chamber of Engineers Construction NRW, represented by Dr. Peiffer and Ms. Hendriks, and representatives of the Civil Engineering Student Council of the RUB in the meeting room of the WIST working group.
